I.O.YOU were originally Kian Mark and Shane along with 3 other Sligo Lads were in the musical Grease. They decided to form a band called I.O.YOU. and they composed a single called Together Girl Forever.{For those who haven't heard it it is really good song} They released it in their Hometown of Sligo. The single got to Louis Walsh and after I.O.YOU supported the Backstreet Boys in '98. He offered to manage them. Louis was definitely impressed by them but RCA Executive Producer Simon Cowell was not impressed at all. He only wanted Kian and Mark.
So they let the other 3 lads go and held auditions in the Pod Nightclub in Dublin.

Among the auditioners there were Nicky and Bryan who after two auditions got the job in I.O.YOU. To go along with their new members they changed their name to Westside.

Westside went back to Simon Cowell and within two minutes he wanted to sign them so in October 98 westsife signed a 4 million pound record deal with RCA.

In December '98 westside went on the Smash Hits Tour and ended up winning the 'BEST NEW TOUR ACT'

Soon before the release of the first single swear it again the name westside turned out to have complications. Westside wouldn't ba able to register in the U.S.A as another group from the States were already registered under that name. So then they changed the name to westlife.

Swear it again was released in Apr '99 & shot to #1 in the Charts. In August '99 If I let you go was released and having the same success as their first single proving that westlife weren't just one hit wonders. Flying Without Wings which was released in Oct '99 again followed Swear It Again and If I let you go and got to #1 also in Dec '99 it won record of the year. Westlife the debut album was next. In Ireland is got to #1 but Steps with their album Stepacular kept westlife off the #1 album position so it got to #2 in the UK.

Santa Claus came early for westlife as they had their double A-side single {I have a dream/seasons in the sun} go into the #1 spot in both the UK and Ireland.
Fool Again first release of 2000 what chart position in the UK did it get again. Oh yeah it repeated the success of every other single westlife released #1 but #2 in Ireland.
Also that single broke westlife into the record books for having their first five consecutive #1 UK singles.
Westlife gained a little success in he USA in Spring-Summer of 2000 swear it again got to #2 in the U.S sales charts and #20 in the Billboard.

Next came the special single Against All Odds duetted with Super Star Diva [Marks fave singer] Mariah Carey. Could this single stop the line of #1's Hec No!
Mariah + Westlife = A Pop Sensation!!!!!!
My love was their seventh single and like flying without wings won record of the year {of 2000} and got to #1.

In Novemeber 2000 Coast to Coast they second anxiously awaited Album was released and despite being up against Spice Girls album FOREVER it got to #1.

I'd advise you to sit down if you are standing.

What makes a man. The eight single {2nd X-mas} failed to get to #1 beaten a cartoon character who says f****en hell in one of his videos. Bob The Bulider! But it did get to #1.

Westlife have also won awards all over the globe even Best Uk and Eire Act and MTV Awards 2000.
